So I know these are puzzles, but I knew you my dear vintage lovers could appreciate the vintage illustrations. Just pretend they are not cut into little puzzle piece shapes ;)

Fox Vs. Wolf

DSC_0043
DSC_0042

How come in all the stories the wolf gets boiled in a pot, killed by the woodsman, or blowing himself away with his huffs and puffs. But the fox, well the fox gets to eat the gingerbread man!
I guess they don't say "clever like a wolf" for a reason ;)

illustrated by Fred D. Lohman and Ethel Hays
It appears that Ethel Hays did all the big color illustrations (as her name is signed on those) and Fred D. Lohman did the smaller black and white illustrations through out the book.

Take The Children
by Dorothy N. King
the inside says Copyright 1951 by Dorothy K. Werblow printed in the USA
I found this book at a thrift shop where all the kid's books are .25cents. I was so excited when I opened it to see all the paper doll characters were inside! It is in wonderful condition and the story is about dropping the children off in the countries they come from. They have little spaces for the dolls to slide into.

Do You Know Pippi Longstocking
by Astrid Lindgren
Pictures by Ingrid Nyman
originally published in 1947 and translation piublished 1999

When I was doing research for my Pippi Longstocking tattoo I had come across an image from this book and fell in love. The image that I found didn't give any info on which edition of Pippi it was from and I figured I'd probably never find a copy.
Then one day a few months back I was going through the books at the thrift shop and saw this! I knew right away from the image on the cover that this was the very book I had seen the image from. I was so excited, I love the illustrations in this copy so very much. It looks like it's not available on Amazon right now, but it was published by R&S Books.

Cowboys And Indians
A Child Life Playbook
Published by Garden City Books no publishing date
The cover says: Complete Indian Village to cut out, games, giant teepee 3 feet tall, cowboys, and puzzles
I really love old activity books, and while this one has some items cut out (like the dot to dot horse) they all seem to be tucked into the book. Plus the funny thing is they didn't cut out any of the items that are supposed to be cut out, those are all still intact.

The spine of the book says #9 Wish I could find the entire collection!

This one cost me .95 at the used bookshop. The best part is they were having a B1G1Free sale on kid's books so not only did I get this one for .95 but another .95 book for free!

I am so head over heels with this book I found! Its called Funday Book by Frances W. Keene. I couldn't find a publishing date, but it does say it is a Sea Horse Fun Book on the back. It is in perfect condition. No marks, and none of the activites have been done.

I might scan some so I can have them printed on heavy cardstock and do some of the scissor cut outs (I'll share those when I scan them) I am so in love with the wishbone kids who appear several times through out the book. The clowns are pretty amazing too.

Now I want to find all the Sea Horse Fun Books! The back lists some gems like Hobby Funbook, Fun Around The World, and the Toy Fun Book.

Mother Goose

Just a quick break from Thanksgiving posts to share a beautiful book that I found at the thrift shop. Actually on this trip I found about five books! They had a stack of vintage children's books on a shelf behind the counter (they always do this when they think something is old an valuable, it's kind of annoying haha) I asked if I could see them and how much they were. They had them priced around $2.99 a book (kid's books are normally .25 or fill a bag for $2.00) But of course $2.99 is still a steal. Tom and I picked out our favorites including this beautiful big hardback edition of Mother Goose.
Mother Goose
Illustrators Fred D. Lohman and Ethel Hays
published by The Saalfied Company 1941

It looks like Ethel Hays did all the color illustrations which are so damn fabulous! There are also small black and white illos through out the book, and while these are great too---those color full page images are just wonderful!
